Washington's Middle East Envoy George Mitchell said Friday that the United States supports Lebanon's armed forces. The statement came following a meeting between Mitchell and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman in Beirut.
In August, several American lawmakers froze $100 million in military aid to Lebanon after expressing concerns that Hezbollah could have influence over the Lebanese military and that the weapons may likely be turned against Israel.
